Ion doped bioactive glass containing fibrous composites with angiogenic potential

Betreuer: Dr. Liliana Liverani, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini

Si Chen received his PhD degree in Material Science from Southwest Jiaotong University, China in 2015. He joined the Department of Biomaterials, Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass (FunGlass) in May, 2018, which is an EU HORIZON 2020 funded project based at Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín (Slovakia) coordinated by prof. Dušan Galusek. In the framework of FunGlass, he started in September 2018 his training period at the Institute of Biomaterials (FAU), which is an international advanced partner of FunGlass. The research activities of Dr. Chen are focused on the investigation of the synergistic effects of metallic ions doped in 45S5 bioactive glass on angiogenesis in bone regeneration [1] and the fabrication of composite poly (e-caprolactone)-based electrospun fibers, incorporating bioactive glass particles, by using benign solvents, following similar approaches already developed at the FAU Institute of Biomaterials [2].
