Fabrication and characterization of poly(glycerol sebacate) – gelatin electrospun scaffolds for cardiac tissue engineering

Betreuer: Lena Vogt, Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Aldo R. Boccaccini

Due to the very limited intrinsic regeneration ability of the heart muscle tissue, therapeutic strategies to repair the damaged tissue, e.g. the cardiac patch strategy, are of particular interest. The objectives of this study are the fabrication and optimization of fibrous scaffolds as well as their characterization regarding mechanical and chemical properties. To obtain these fibrous scaffolds, the electrospinning technique will be used to fabricate patches based on poly(glycerol sebacate) [1] and gelatin. The use of benign solvents for the electrospinning process will also be investigated.
