Evaluation of a new family of alginate-based hydrogels for 3D bioprinting applications

Alginate based hydrogels are getting significant attention in biofabrication, which includes the 3D bioprinting technique for tissue engineering applications. The oxidation of alginate to alginate-di-aldehyde (ADA) creates free aldehyde-groups compared to native alginate, whereby crosslinking with free amino-groups of gelatin (GEL) is possible to form ADA-GEL hydrogels (1). The aim of this project is the development and characterization of a new group of alginate-based hydrogels for 3D bioprinting approaches which feature the incorporation of bioactive molecules with cell binding motifs.
