Novel Calcium Silicate Cements: Exploring Alternative Avenues for Property Enhancement

Supervisors: Hazel Simila, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini

Dental cements play a significant role in every day dental restoration procedures. Although calcium silicate-based cements are the most suitable for pulp regeneration, they could still be improved in terms of rheological, physical and antimicrobial properties. Utilizing the sol-gel method to synthesize pure TCS while co-opting select nanoparticles and hydrophilic resin blends are avenues that will be explored in this project to achieve the said improvements [1].  Therefore, this research aims to formulate TCS cements containing highly purified TCS and variable proportions of mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGN) to investigate the comparative properties of the created compositions.
