Development of tendon biomimetic fibrous scaffolds for tendon regeneration

Supervisor: Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini and Prof. Valentina Russo (University of Teramo, Italy)

In collaboration with Profs. Valentina Russo and Barbara Barboni, University of Teramo (Italy), this project belongs to the Horizon 2020 “Perspectives for Future Innovation in Tendon Repair” (P4 FIT) European Joint Doctorate consortium (EU H2020-MCSA-ITN-EJD-2020). The aim of the research is the fabrication of novel biomimetic scaffolds as a tissue engineering approach to tendon regeneration. In particular, scaffold fabrication will be achieved through the electrospinning technique, and a benign solvent system will be employed in combination with synthetic and natural-derived polymers mixtures. The project will also focus on the characterization of the final product in terms of mechanical properties, biocompatibility and teno-inductive potential.
