Biopolymer/mesoporous bioactive glass-coated boron containing bioactive glass scaffolds for bone tissue engineering

Bioactive glass scaffolds are of great interest for bone regeneration applications [1]. In this project, Boron-containing bioactive glasses (B-containing BGs) will be used due to the enhanced biological properties provided by incorporation of B as biologically active ion [2]. The improvement of biological and mechanical properties has always been one of the major goals in the engineering of scaffolds for bone regeneration. The aim of this project is to improve the mechanical and biological properties of the bioactive glass scaffolds even further. This is done by doping the B-containing BGs with zinc ions and using a natural polymer containing mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles as a coating.
