Prof. Boccaccini: Invited speaker at Symposium to celebrate the career of Prof. Leena Hupa (Åbo Akademi University, Turku, Finland)
On 13th June 2025, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini attended (online) the symposium organised at Åbo Akademi University, Turku, Finland, to celebrate the career of Prof. Leena Hupa from sss. Prof. Boccaccini presented the talk: “Bioactive glasses: from composition to applications (A short summary of my research journey with Prof. Leena Hupa)”. On his professional relationship with Prof. Hupa, Prof. Boccaccini said: “It was an honor to present this talk at the Symposium to celebrate Leena’s career and accomplishments. We have collaborated with Prof. Hupa and her team at Åbo Akademi University in Turku for almost 20 years. Numerous bioactive glass compositions have been developed and characterised over the years in close collaboration with her, which has resulted in numerous joint publications, organisation of symposia and conferences, and we co-edited, together with Prof. Delia Brauer, one of the most complete volumes on bioactive glasses [1]. Leena has visited us several times in Erlangen and I have been myself in Turku a couple of times, notably in 2022 to receive the Honorary Doctoracte from Åbo Akademi University. While we wish Leena a wonderful time after retirenment, I do hope that we will continue to be in touch as we always need her insights about bioactive glasses and their properties!”
