Doctoral thesis success: Paula Corcosa
Congratulations to Paula Corcosa on successfully defending her doctoral thesis on 6th October 2025. She developed and characterized antimicrobial metal ion complexes which were embedded in electrospun biodegradable polymer fibers. Paula carried out her doctoral project at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, Department of Chemistry, supervised by Prof. Katharina M. Fromm. She conducted part of her experimental work under supervision Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini at the FAU Institute of Biomaterials. Prof. Boccaccini highlighted the innovative character of Paula’s project, in which the clear added value of combining chemistry with materials science and engineering was demonstrated through the development of a new family of antibacterial fibrous structures with potential applications in wound healing and soft tissue engineering. Many congratulations again to Paula on the successful defense of her doctoral thesis. We wish her all the best in her future career!
