Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini receives Honorary Doctorate from the International University of Catalonia, Barcelona, Spain

On 17 November 2025, Professor Aldo R. Boccaccini was conferred the Honorary Doctorate degree by the International University of Catalonia (IUC Barcelona), Barcelona, Spain. The solemn conferral ceremony took place in the Aula Magna of the University in Barcelona, attended by the Minister of the Departament de Recerca i Universitats, Núria Montserrat, the Rector of UIC Barcelona, Prof. Dr. Alfonso Méndiz Noguero, members of the university’s governing bodies, and many faculty members of IUC Barcelona. Prof. Dr. Roman Perez Antoñanzas, Director of the Bioengineering Institute of Technology (BIT) UIC Barcelona and Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer, underlined in his laudatio the relevance of Prof. Boccaccini’s contributions in the development of biomaterials and innovations in the field of tissue engineering.

Prof. Boccaccini said: “It was an honor to be awarded this distinction yesterday during a solemn ceremony held in the Aula Magna of the University. I am proud to become part of the academic community of this distinguished institution. My sincere appreciation goes to the university’s governing bodies and faculty for this recognition. Special thanks to Prof. Roman Perez Antoñanzas, for the kind words in his laudatio. Many thanks to everyone at UIC Barcelona who made my visit both pleasant and inspiring. I look forward to establishing a vibrant program of research collaboration between the Bioengineering program at UIC and the Institute of Biomaterials at FAU.”
