FEMS Management Committee and FEMS Board meetings held in Erlangen and online
28th November 2025
The meetings of the Management Committee (MC) and the Board of the Federation of European Materials Societies (FEMS) were held in hybrid format at the University of Erlangen–Nuremberg and online on 24–25 November 2025. These were very fruitful and effective meetings in which details of the upcoming FEMS activities were discussed, including FEMS Junior Euromat (to be held in Greece in July 2026), the 5th FEMS Industry Symposium (to be held in Germany in early 2027), and FEMS EUROMAT 2027 (to be held in Graz, Austria, in September 2027). During the meeting, Prof. Boccaccini acknowledged Prof. Anna Zervaki’s significant contributions to the leadership of FEMS, particularly her tireless support of all FEMS activities over almost 10 years. Prof. Frans Vos, FEMS Honorary Treasurer, was also in Erlangen and visited our Institute’s laboratories. These meetings were the last ones chaired by Prof. Boccaccini as FEMS President, as his two-year tenure ends at the end of the year.
Prof. Boccaccini said: “I was happy to chair the last FEMS Management Committee and Board meetings of my term as FEMS President. It has been a privilege to lead FEMS over the past two years, together with our outstanding Management Committee (MC) members, and I look forward to continuing to collaborate with the MC as Past President and to offering my full support to our new President, Prof. Paula Vilarinho (Portugal). I also enormously thank the hard work and continuous support of Prof. Anna D. Zervaki (Greece), current Past President, one of the true movers and shakers in FEMS, who has served on the FEMS MC for the past six years. I am also happy to welcome Prof. Rodrigo Moreno (Spain) as our next Vice President. I am proud of this team, which will ensure that FEMS remains a driving force for the materials science and engineering community in Europe, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to the ongoing mission of FEMS.”
