Congratulations to Ertugrul Varlik on successfully defending his doctoral thesis titled “ADVANCED MANUFACTURING OF 3D SCAFFOLDS USING BIOACTIVE GLASS FOR BONE TISSUE ENGINEERING APPLICATIONS” on 12th February, 2026. Ertugrul carried out his doctoral research at FunGlass – Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass, University of Trenčín, Slovakia, under the supervision of Dr. Martin Michalek, in co-tutelle with Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini at FAU. Prof. Boccaccini highlighted the innovative character of Ertugrul’s project in the field of 3D additive manufacturing on boron containing bioactive glass scaffolds for bone regeneration, in particular, the achievement of a dual biological effect in terms of bioactivity and antibacterial effect in scaffolds with controlled crystallinity. Several papers have already resulted from Ertugrul’s project [1, 2] and and other manuscripts are in preparation. Many congratulations to Ertugrul on the successful defense of his doctoral thesis, we wish him all the best in his future career.
