Training workshop on tissue engineering scaffolds organised by our Institute at BBCE, Riga, Latvia

On 17–18 June 2026, PhD students Sena Harmanci and Hannah Kissel travelled to Riga, Latvia, to conduct a training workshop on functionalized scaffolds for tissue engineering applications at the Baltic Biomaterials Centre of Excellence (BBCE) in the framework of the EU-funded Horizon 2020 project, grant agreement No. 857287. The workshop was co-organized by Marcela Arango-Ospina, Dr. Zoya Hadzhieva, and Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini as part of the ongoing collaboration of Institute with BBCE.
The two-day workshop began with talks by the PhD students from Erlangen, who introduced scaffold systems and functionalization strategies. The experimental sessions focused on the surface functionalization of PCL scaffolds using hydrogels and bioactive glasses. In addition to the scientific and practical sessions, the workshop provided an opportunity for knowledge exchange, discussion of shared research interests, and exploration of potential future collaborations with 14 participants from Riga and BBCE.
