We are delighted to announce that Mr Jahid Alakbarli, who is currently studying for a PhD at the Institute of Biomaterials at FAU, has won the German Society for Biomaterials (DGBM) award for the best Master’s thesis in 2026. Entitled ‘Bioprinting of Modified 3D Alginate-Based Glioblastoma Constructs via Combined Extrusion and Drop-on-Demand Approaches’, his thesis focused on the bioprinting of alginate-based bioinks for biofabrication. It was completed as part of Project C05 of the Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) / Transregio (TRR) 225 and was supervised by Dr. Rainer Detsch and Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini. He received the award during the DGBM Annual Conference, which took place in Aachen from 23 to 26 September 2026.
