Active participation of our Institute at MSE 2026 Congress in Darmstadt

Our Institute had an active participation and contribution to the success of the Materials Science and Engineering MSE Congress (MSE 2026) held in Darmstadt, Germany, and in hybrid format on 29 September-1 October 2026. The MSE conference series is organised by the DGM (German Society for Materials Science). Prof. Boccaccini was one of the coordinators of the Topic “Biomaterials” with Prof. Corneila Lee-Thedieck, University of Hannover, and Prof. Silvia Fare (Polytechnic of Milan, Italy). He also organised the symposium “Biomaterials Applications” with Prof. Sahar Salehi-Mueller (University of Hohenheim) and Prof Lorenzo Vannozzi (Pisa, Italy). Prof. Boccaccini presented the Plenary talk “Bioactive materials in healthcare: from tissue engineering to biofabrication and ionic medicine”, as part of the Heyn-Denkmünze award he received earlier in the week, the highest honor awarded by the DGM. Marcela Arango-Ospina and Hannah Kissel (PhD students) presented oral talks in different sessions showing recent results of their projects: DFG-CONICET and DFG-ELAINE, respectively. Dr. Vida Khalili, former Alexander von Humboldt fellow and visiting researcher in our Institute, presented the poster: “Combined Effects of PEO Coatings and DMEM Immersion on the Degradation and Biocompatibility of WE43 Magnesium Alloy”, a collaboration with colleagues at University of Bochum. One highlight of the conference was that Ms Khalili received the best poster award in Topic B (Biomaterials). Another highlight of the conference was the award received by Prof. Boccaccini, the Heyn-Denkmünze award (Emil Heyn Medal).
