Effect of bioactive glasses on soft tissue engineering

For healing soft tissues, borate bioactive glasses are exploited as they have been shown to reduce inflammation, induce angiogenesis and enable tissue attachment [1]. In fact, certain formulations of borate bioactive glasses have higher capacity to heal soft tissue than silicate glasses [2]. In this project, borate bioactive glasses are incorporated in a polymeric matrix and electrospun nanofibers are produced [1]. Various biologically active ions will be also doped in borate bioactive glasses and their effect on soft tissue regeneration will be determined by cell culture techniques.
