Biomaterials as a platform for mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles-bioactive compounds delivery in immunomodulation therapy of chronic inflammation-related diseases

Collaborator: Prof. Dr. Aldo R. Boccaccini

Modulating macrophage plasticity could be a strategy to improve some inflammation-related diseases. In this regard, a new paradigm is emerging: the development of advanced biomaterials capable of inducing in-situ macrophage polarization to offer a novel and transformative approach.  With this aim, we are investigating the combination of mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGNs) and bioactive molecules embedded in polymeric biomaterials. The complete analytical and functional characterisation of the new composites are also part of this project.
