Investigation of processing parameters and orientation of electrospun PCL-Collagen biocomposite fibers

Under severe conditions skeletal muscles lack the ability to reorganize and the loss of muscle functionality is inevitable. The application of tissue engineered constructs is a promising approach in regenerative therapies for damaged muscular tissue. Moreover, aligned and patterned topographies can guide cell alignment and support the formation of aligned myotubes. Therefore, the development of highly aligned scaffolds based on electrospun biopolymer nanofibers will be investigated [1]. Since electrospinning with these materials is generally performed with highly toxic and cancerous solvents, novel environmentally benign solvent system will be introduced. The spinning process will be optimized by determining the ideal process conditions to achieve the highest possible efficiency as well as the best possible fiber morphology and alignment.
