Fabrication and characterization of melt-electrowritten scaffolds for biomedical applications

Supervisor: Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Aldo R. Boccaccini

Melt electro-writting (MEW) has recently emerged as a convenient technique to fabricate highly ordered scaffolds with well-interconnected 3D architectures [1, 2]. This research project aims to investigate new strategies for the design, development, and characterization of MEW scaffolds suitable for biomedical applications, particularly for wound healing and bone regeneration approaches. In this regard, this project will be focused on two approaches: firstly, the effects of the MEW scaffold`s different geometry on cell behavior will be investigated. Secondly, bioactive glass-integrated MEW scaffolds will be fabricated and characterized. Thus, the studies will provide the basis for future development and improvement for a range of biomedical applications.
