Engineering Vascularized Implants for Personalised Osteochondral Tissue Regeneration: From medical imaging to pre-clinical validation

Collaborators: Andrada-Ioana Damian-Buda, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini

Within the European MSCA EngVIPO project, this secondment focused on extrusion-based 3D printing of alginate dialdehyde–gelatin (ADA–GEL) composite hydrogels modified with tricalcium phosphate (TCP) for osteochondral scaffold development. The work involved bioink preparation, ceramic dispersion, systematic optimization of printing parameters, and comparison of scaffold geometries at increasing mineral content. This visit established a preliminary processing window for ADA–GEL/TCP systems and strengthened methodological alignment between the Institute of Biomaterials at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg and AGH University of Krakow, Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics, Department of Biomaterials and Composites, toward future biofabricated osteochondral constructs.
The EngVIPO project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme (HORIZON-MSCA-2023-SE-01-01) under Grant Agreement No. 101183041.
