In vitro dissolution behavior and biological performance of ion doped melt-derived silicate bioactive glasses

This project is a collaboration between Åbo Akademi University ( https://www.abo.fi/en/ ) (Turku, Finland) and the Institute of Biomaterials, Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg.

The study investigates the in vitro dissolution behavior and biological performance of melt-derived bioactive glasses based on the S53P4 bioactive glass composition. The glasses are modified by partially substituting CaO with 1, 3, and 5 mol.% of ZnO or SrO to evaluate the influence of therapeutic ion incorporation on dissolution behavior, biomineralization, and biological responses, including osteogenic, angiogenic, and antibacterial activity.
