Porous metallic scaffolds with biopolymer-based composite coatings for bone regeneration applications

Supervisor: Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini

The research project aims to deliver innovative implant solutions for the effective treatment of bone-related pathologies. The approach integrates porous metallic scaffolds with biopolymer-based composites to achieve a balance between mechanical properties and biological activity. A combination of manufacturing techniques, including powder metallurgy and additive manufacturing, enables the tailoring of porosity and structural properties to mimic natural bone. In parallel, surface engineering strategies and in vitro evaluations are employed to enhance osteointegration, antimicrobial activity, and long-term functionality. The project is the framework of collaboration with Profs. Yadir Torres and Ana Alcudia at University of Sevilla, Spain.
