Controlled drug release systems based on novel hydrogel compounds for biomedical applications

Supervisor in Erlangen: Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini

The goal of this project is the development of novel hydrogels with tailored properties and the ability to form microcapsules for controlled drug release and tissue engineering intended for medical and animal husbandry applications. This project is presented as a collaborative effort between the Institute of Biomaterials, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) and the Institute of Technological Development for the Chemical Industry in Argentina (INTEC). Activities to be carried out include the design, synthesis and bio-physico-chemical characterization of the novel hydrogels. The properties of the resulting hydrogels are tailored in terms of their drug encapsulation efficiency and release profile, in the context of a potential tissue engineering application. This project is funded by the Academic and Professional Training Program Abroad for Argentines, from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of the Argentine Republic.
