Synthesis and characterization of mesoporous bioactive glass particles for drug delivery applications

Supervisors: Qaisar Nawaz, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini

The aim of this Bachelor thesis project is to develop and characterize mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGNs) [1]. In the second stage of the project, a  therapeutic metal ion will be co-doped in the MBGNs. The particles will be synthesized using a modified Stöber based sol-gel method. The synthesized  particles will be characterized in terms of morphology and texture  properties. The bioactivity of particles will be  assessed by immersion in simulated body fluid for 3, 7, 14, 21 days. The effect of adding different ions on the particle properties will be investigated.
