Fabrication and characterizations of biomaterials for bone tissue engineering applications

Supervisors: Dr. Qaisar Nawaz, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini

This project involves the fabrication and characterization of bioactive nanostructured materials, specifically mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGNs) and porous scaffolds for bone tissue engineering. MBGNs based on SiO₂-CaO will be synthesized using micro-emulsion approach and scaffolds  will be prepared using the foam replica technique [1]. The produced MBGNs will be further used for the coating of scaffolds to provide a nanoscale topography. The materials will be characterized using FTIR, XRD and  SEM.
