Electrospun film reinforced bioactive glass/polymer composite bone scaffolds: fabrication and degradation simulation

Betreuer (Southeast University): Prof. Zhiyong Li
Betreuer (FAU): Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini

Since the discovery of 45S5 Bioglass® by Larry Hench in 1971 [1], this material has been considered as a promising alternative material to regenerate, repair and replace the skeletal system due to its bone-bonding ability. With advanced properties similar to those of the native extracellular matrix, hydrogels have found widespread applications in tissue engineering. In this research, a combination of 45S5 Bioglass® scaffolds [2] and a hydrogel will be investigated to produce novel 3D scaffolds with enhanced osteoconductivity and biodegradability. In addition electrospun PCL membranes will be used to enhance the scaffold’s compressive strength.
