The main purpose of this research project is the design, processing and characterisation of innovative coatings based on polydopamine. The biomimetic coatings will be characterised in terms of physical and chemical properties, antibacterial activity and biological compatibility in order to assess their suitability for biomedical applications. Moreover, the possibility of loading the polymer with a drug to impart an additional therapeutic functionality to the coating will be studied. This research project is being carried out in the framework of the European Training Network (ETN) (Horizon 2020) project: “Advanced glasses, Composites And Ceramics for High growth Industries (CoACH)“.
