Enhancing the functionality of bioactive glass scaffolds by biopolymer coatings
Supervisors in Erlangen: Hannah Kissel, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini
The aim of this Erasmus+ traineeship is to investigate bioactive glass (BG)- based scaffolds for applications in bone tissue engineering. This research combines fabrication of BG scaffolds via foam replica technique and subsequently surface modification using biopolymer coating to improve mechanical performance. The scaffolds will be characterised in terms of structure, porosity, bioactivity, mechanical properties and cytocompatibility. This project contributes to ongoing advancements of bioactive and mechanically stable scaffolds for tissue regeneration.
