EU Teaming Project “FunGlass”: Kick-off meeting in Trencin, Slovakia

The kick-off meeting of the EU project “FunGlass” which has received funding from the TEAMING Horizon 2020 call “Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation” took place in Trencin, Slovakia, on 7-8 March 2017. These large projects funded by the European Commission are established to support research infrastructure in EU countries which are weak in their science/technology basis. The project “Centre for functional and surface-functionalized glasses (FunGlass)” is funded with 15 million Euro and it will establish a new Centre of Excellence on Advanced Glass Materials linked to the Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín. The role of the Centre, which will be led by Prof. Dusan Galusek (pictured with Aldo R. Boccaccini), is to carry out R&D activities in the area of glasses with special functional properties for a range of novel applications. Prof. Boccaccini is one of the 4 international partners of the Centre, together with Prof. Lothar Wondraczek, Otto Schott Institute of Materials Research, University of Jena, Germany, Prof. Enrico Bernardo, Centre for Mechanics of Biological Materials, University of Padova, Italy, and Prof. Alicia Duran, Institute of Ceramic and Glass, Madrid, Spain.
