Dr. Fabian Westhauser, Heidelberg University Hospital, “Zentrum für Orthopädie, Unfallchirurgie und Paraplegiologie” visited the Institute of Biomaterials on 1st August 2017. He presented the seminar: “Development of the ideal bone substitute: the Holy Grail in modern musculoskeletal tissue engineering? Recent developments and approaches“. We are collaborating with the group of Dr. Westhauser in the field of bioactive glass scaffolds for bone tissue engineering. Our first joint paper was published in J. Mater. Sci. Mater. Med. [1] and we have currently expanded our research collaboration to consider novel bioactive glass compositions and architectures.
