The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) has announced the induction of Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini to its College of Fellows. AIMBE is the authoritative voice and advocate for the value of medical and biological engineering to society. Election to the AIMBE College of Fellows is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to medical and biological engineers. College membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to “engineering and medicine research, practice, or education” and to “the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of medical and biological engineering or developing/implementing innovative approaches to bioengineering education.”
Professor Boccaccini was nominated, reviewed, and elected by peers and members of the College of Fellows “for his seminal contributions in designing bioactive materials towards regenerative medicine, drug delivery and 3D bioprinting applications.” The induction ceremony was held during the AIMBE Annual Event in Arlington, VA, USA, on March 25, 2024.
Prof. Boccaccini said: “I am very proud of this recognition, which highlights our work on bioactive materials carried out over the years and its impact on biomedical applications. To be a member of the 2024 class of the College of Fellows of AIMBE, the only one based in Germany, means to be in a distinguished group of professionals who have made outstanding contributions to engineering and medicine research, practice, or education. I consider this to be a recognition also to all former and current members of my research team”.
