Prof. Uwe Gbureck, Department for Functional Materials in Medicine and Dentistry, University Hospital Würzburg, visited the Institute of Biomaterials on 17th January 2017. We discussed with Prof. Gbureck collaboration in the field of biomaterials for bone regeneration, in particular following our common interest on inorganic matrices with biologically active ion releasing capability, namely calcium phosphate and bioactive glasses. We have previously collaborated with Prof. Gbureck in the field of ion doped bioactive glasses [1]. In the framework of the “Materials Science Colloquium” of the FAU Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Prof. Gbureck presented the lecture “Reinforcement strategies for mineral bone cements“.
