Prof. Boccaccini will be an international partner of the project “Development and characterization of drug free bioactive glass nanoparticles for biomedical applications” funded by the Britisch Council  under the Pakistan-UK Education Gateway scheme. The principal investigator is Dr. Muhammad Atiq Ur Rehman (alumnus from our Institute, PhD graduated in 2018), currently at the Department of Materials Science & Engineering, Institute of Space Technology (IST), Pakistan, collaborating also with Prof. Ipsita Roy, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Sheffield, UK. The project will develop antibacterial bioactive glass nanoparticles for biomedical applications, specifically to develop composite coatings to improve the performance of traditional metallic orthopedic implants. The project was selected through a competitive international peer review process. Within this project, PhD students and post-doctoral researchers based in Pakistan and UK will have the opportunity to carry out part of their research projects in our Institute.
