Prof. Boccaccini: Plenary speaker at Bioceramics 29 conference in Toulouse, France

Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini was one of the six plenary speakers at the 29th Symposium and Annual Meeting of the International Society for Ceramics in Medicine, ISCM, (Bioceramics 29), held in Toulouse, France, on 25-27 October 2017. He presented the plenary lecture: “Bioactive glasses in soft tissue repair: emerging evidence and research needs” discussing exciting new opportunities for applications of bioactive glasses in soft tissue repair and wound healing. Our Institute was also represented by Ms Abirami Sengottuvelan (PhD student), she presented the oral contribution: “Preparation and characterisation of titanium dioxide scaffolds developed via replication of natural marine sponge with PHBV-Chitosan and 1393 bioactive glass coatings for bone tissue engineering”. Prof. Boccaccini was also session chair at the conference and he met several colleagues (pictured with Prof. Boccaccini), including Prof. Toshiiro Kasuga (Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan), Prof. Delia Brauer (University of Jena, Germany), Prof. Susmita Bose (Washington State University, USA), Prof. Julian R. Jones (Imperial College London, UK), Dr. Karolina Schickle (RWTH Aachen, Germany). Professor Boccaccini also discussed with Prof. Janis Locs (Riga Technical University, Latvia) the progress of the Horizon 2020 project “Baltic Biomaterials Centre of Excellence (BBCE)” in which our Institute is participating as international partner.
