We are happy to report that Svenja Heise, who completed her doctoral thesis under supervision of Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini at the Institute of Biomaterials in 2018 was awarded the Doctoral Thesis Prize of the Alumni Asociation of the Faculty of Engineering Erlangen (” Freundeskreis im Alumni Technische Fakultät Erlangen e.V”) at the Day of the Faculty of Engineering  on 22 November 2019. Svenja’s thesis entitled “Development of advanced biodegradable and bioactive coatings for Mg alloys” was carried out in collaboration with Prof. Sanna Virtanen (Institute for Surface Science and Corrosion). The research project of Svenja, who is currently research staff member at BAM Berlin, led to several publications and conference presentations, including papers in high impact journals (for example [1, 2]). Svenja also won an award for her presentation in the “Science Slam” competition held during the event (3 minute presentation, winner voted by the audience). We congratulate Svenja on these successes and wish all the best farther in her career.
