Our paper entitled “Multi-targeted B and Co co-doped 45S5 bioactive glasses with angiogenicpotential for bone regeneration” has been published in Mater. Sci. Eng. C [1]. This paper presents results of our collaboration with researchers at the Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass (FunGlass), Alexander Dubček University of Trencin, Slovakia. In this study, bioactive glasses of 45S5 composition doped with B and Co, as angiogenic ions, were developed and characterised. The synergy of the angiogenic action of the B and Co ions was demonstrated for the first time in this study by measuring the release of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) from mouse bone marrow-derived stromal cell line (ST2), exposed to different concentrations of dissolution products of the bioactive glasses.
