Our collaborative paper with the group of Prof.  J. Muñoz-Saldaña, at Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute (CINVESTAV-Querétaro), Mexico, has been published in Materials Letters. This paper entitled “In-vitro bioactivity and cytotoxicity of polarized (Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3 ceramics as a novel biomaterial for bone repair” (Mater. Letters  275 (2020) 128078) reports on the bioactive and non-cytotoxic behavior of (Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3  piezoelectric ceramics, evidencing that apatite growth and maturation as well as cell shape and size are affected by surface polarity. Poled (Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3 ceramics are promising materials with tunable in-vitro properties for bone repair. This study was carried out in the framework of the doctoral thesis project of Ms Jennifer Hermann Muñoz, PhD student under the collaborative (joint PhD) agreement between FAU (Institute of Biomaterials) and CINVESTAV-Querétaro.
