Doctoral thesis success: Nurshen Mutlu

Prof. Boccaccini and Nurshen standing with the comitee.

Many congratulations to Ms Nurshen Mutlu for successfully defending her doctoral thesis titled “INCORPORATION OF BORATE BIOACTIVE GLASSES INTO SOFT MATRICES FOR SOFT TISSUE APPLICATIONS” on 21st August 2023. Nurshen carried out her doctoral studies under the co-tutelle agreement between our Institute (supervised by Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini) and the Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass (FunGlass), Alexander Dubcek University of Trencin, Slovakia (supervised by Prof. Dusan Galusek). The oral defense was held in Trencin. Prof. Boccaccini highlighted the highly innovative character of Nurshen’s research project as she combined the ion releasing capability of borate bioactive glasses and used chelation to include extra biologically active ions in chitosan to develop novel composites for wound healing applications. Several papers have been published from Nurshen’s project (for example [1-2]). We congratulate Nurshen on her doctorate and wish her all the best in her future career.
