Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini bows out as Editor-in-Chief of Materials Letters

The tenure of Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Materials Letters (and Materials Letters X) comes to an end on December 31st , 2023, after almost 14 years. The press release from the publisher Elsevier is available.

Prof. Boccaccini became the journal’s first Editor-in-Chief in 2010. Materials Letters is one of the “classical” and respected journals in the materials science discipline, being highly recognised by the materials science international community. The journal contributes strongly to the body of published research in the materials field and it has been continuously growing since it was established in 1982. For example, It published almost 2000 papers in 2022, with 12,750 citations in 2022 to items published in 2020 and 2021.  The sister journal, a fully gold open access journal, Materials Letters: X, published its first issue in 2019. The new Editor-in-Chief from January 2024 will be Prof. Raymundo Arroyave (Texas A&M University, USA), who, as Prof. Boccaccini wrote, will bring a fresh perspective and energy to the journal. In his farewell message, Prof. Boccaccini acknowledged the journal readers, authors, referees as well as the editors and all members of the editorial board and staff at Elsevier who have contributed over the years to the success of the journal. Prof. Boccaccini writes: “It has been an honour and a privilege for me to work with so many fine people during all these years serving as Editor-in-Chief and being part of the growth of Materials Letters. I am excited to see what the future brings for our journal.” Prof. Boccaccini’s massive contribution to the development of the journal has been recognized in his new position as Emeritus Editor-in-Chief.
