Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini was one of the invited speakers at the Bone and Enamel Tissue Science and Engineering 2017 (BETSE 2017) One-Day Meeting held on 13 December 2017 in Leeds, United Kingdom (chair: Prof. Animesh Jha, University of Leeds, pictured with Prof. Boccaccini). Prof. Boccaccini presented the lecture: “Bioactive glasses with therapeutic ion release for bone regeneration: progress and challenges”. Our Institute was also represented by Ms Seray Kaya and Mr Lukas Gritsch, PhD students in the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie European Training Network “Drug-Free Antibacterial Hybrid Biopolymers for Medical Applications” (HyMedPoly) project, who presented oral contributions. A poster in collaboration with the group of Prof. Dimitris Bikiaris (School of Chemistry, University of Thessaloniki, Greece) entitled: “Bulk modification and surface micropatterning of poly(lactic acid): a synergistic strategy to enhance cell adhesion and proliferation” was also presented. Prof. Boccaccini met with colleagues and former collaborators Prof. Xuebin Yang, Dr. Reem El-Gendy (University of Leeds) [1].
