Dr. Agnieszka Witecka, Polish Academy of Sciences, finalizes KMM VIN fellowship in the Institute of Biomaterials

Prof. Boccaccini und Dr. Witecka

Dr. Agnieszka Witecka, Institute of Fundamental Technological Research (IPPT), Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland, was recipient of a research fellowship of the European Virtual Institute KMM-VIN AISBL Mobility Programme to carry out research in the Institute of Biomaterials.

Dr. Witecka investigated the development and characterization of novel electrophoretically deposited chitosan (CS) – bioactive glass (BG) composite coatings on WE43 magnesium alloy substrates for biomedical applications. The CS+BG coatings were evaluated in terms of their ability to induce surface hydroxyapatite formation in biological fluids while controlling the substrate degradation.

The collaboration with IPPT and Dr. Witecka will continue in this field with focus on the biological response to the developed CS-BG coatings. gt.
