On 4th March 2020 we received the visit of Prof. Carsten Werner , Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research, and Head of the Institute Biofunctional Polymer Materials within the Max Bergmann Center of Biomaterials, Dresden, hosted by Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini. Prof. Werner presented the invited talk “Cell Instructive Biohybrid Hydrogels” in the framework of the seminar series of the project “Novel Biopolymer Hydrogels for Understanding Complex Tissue Biomechanics”,  which is funded by the Emerging Fields Initiative (EFI) of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) and involves researchers from the Faculties of Engineering, Natural Sciences and Medicine of FAU. The visit offered the opportunity to discuss with Prof. Werner on the development and characterisation of hydrogels with specific properties of relevance for the mentioned EFI project, which focuses on the categorization of biological tissues according to their mechanical behavior and investigates the biofabrication of hydrogel based biomaterials with similar properties to living tissues. The principal investigators are: Dr. Silvia Budday and Prof. Paul Steinmann (coordinator, Mechanical Engineering), Prof. Ben Fabry (Biophysics), Prof. Friedrich Paulsen (Anatomy) and Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini (Biomaterials).
