Baltic Biomaterials Centre of Excellence: consortium meeting in Riga, Latvia

Participants of the hybrid meeting

On 30-31 March 2021, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini, Ms Zoya Hadzhieva and Marcela Arango-Ospina attended the second partner and “Scientific Focus Groups” (SFG) meeting of the Baltic Biomaterials Centre of Excellence (BBCE) with participation of the members of the external advisory board. The meeting was held in hybrid form. More than 50 participants attended the meeting which included scientific presentations describing the current and planned research activities of the different scientific groups in the Centre, based at different research institutions in Latvia. The main objectives of BBCE is to establish a joint research centre for advanced biomaterials development based on the long-term strategic cooperation between AO Research Institute Davos, Switzerland and our Institute at FAU on the one hand and Latvia research institutions (Riga Technical University, Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis, Riga Stradins University and RSU Institute of Stomatology) on the other hand. The project is coordinated by Prof. Janis Locs at Riga Technical University “Rudolfs Cimdins Riga Biomaterials innovations and development centre”. Our Institute is in charge of the training of PhD students and post-doctoral researchers of BBCE with focus on biomaterials. The training progam started in the second half of 2021. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 857287.
