On 21st May, our Institute participated actively at the Long Night of the Sciences in Erlangen. We presented a stand entitled: “Jelly, gummy bears and joints: a journey through the world of biomedical materials”. In particular, we demonstrated the advances of 3D printing of biomaterials. Implants and scaffolds of different strengths can be produced with the help of 3D printing. Soft materials such as gelatine can be used as ink to print noses and ears and to be loaded with cells for biofabrication of tissue-like structures, which is part of our research activities in the framework of the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Centre SFB/TRR 225. We thank everyone who contributed to the success of our stand, specially our PhD students Faina, Lisa, Zoya, Susanne, Sonja, Francesco, Jonas, Hsuang-Heng and Emine and the great technical support of Mr Heinz Mahler.
