The kick-off meeting of the Collaborative Research Center (SFB 1540) “Exploring Brain Mechanics” was held on 17th March 2023 at University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. The CRC “Exploring Brain Mechanics” is carrying out research on the most complex system of organs that exists – the central nervous system. Researchers at the CRC specialize in fields such as engineering, physics, biology and medicine, and the goal is to gain valuable insights into this area by effective interdisciplinary collaboration. The German Research Foundation (DFG) has granted funding for a first four year period. Speaker of CRC 1540 is Prof. Dr. Paul Steinmann, Chair of Applied Mechanics. Prof. Boccaccini leads Project X03 “Engineering brain tissue-like matrices” which will develop novel biomaterial (hydrogel) systems with biological and mechanical properties required to investigate cell behaviour in collaboration with several partners of the consortium. Ms Sonja Kuth and Mr Markus Lorke (PhD students on this project) as well as Prof. Boccaccini attended the kick-off meeting.
